Last week, a Dare Coun ty grand jury in dicted state Rep. Bob Steinburg’s assistant on a charge of embezzle ment to her consultant work for an Outer Banks res PHELPS taurant last year. The indict ment alleges that Diana Lon don, 31, embezzled $2,511 from Pigman’s Bar-B-Que in Kill Devil Hills sometime be tween Feb. 1,2017, and Dec. 1,2017. District Attorney Andrew Womble said London’s of fense predated her work for Steinburg and the case did not involve the lawmaker. That’s something the organizers of the Heritage Farm Fest hope to change. Now in its fourth year, this year’s farm fest will take place on Saturday, June 2 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at John A Holmes High School in Edenton. The free, family-oriented festival will have a vintage tractor parade through the downtown area starting at 10 a.m. There will be farm animals for viewing and pet ting, 4-H horse demonstra tions courtesy of New Hope Stables, historical displays and more. In the high school cafeteria, folks will be able to see a model train set-up depicting scenery from a rural area. “We want to show folks, from kids to adults, how life on the farm has progressed over the last 150 to 200 years,” said Joseph Good win, who is serving as chair man of the event. “And we really want to involve kids in this,” he added. “We will have kids shelling corn, tractor games and pedal tractors for kids to eqjoy.” • Goodwin said other at tractions would include a blacksmith demonstrating his craft, freshly roasted peanuts and homemade ice cream.
